Agriculture : Wood Pellet
Wood pellets are a type of biomass fuel made of sawdust that is pressed during high velocity making it compacted into small pellets. Their small size make them very convenient and allow automatic feeding with very fine machinery and be fed to a boiler or stove by pneumatic conveying. Wood pellets are very dense and is often produced with a low amount of humidity content (below 10%). This make them burn with very high combustion efficiency. The low humidity level means that burning wood pellets saves a lot of energy compared to fuels that are moister in the sense that these waste a lot of energy burning the moist. The low humidity in wood pellets also allows them to be used automatically in clean stoves and heating appliances.
In addition to the abovementioned attributes wood pellet as a biomass are environmental friendly. They release less emissions and ashes that could damage the surroundings. Moreover, wood pellets are being produced out of what is considered as waste materials from wood processing machines. This means that using this waste material to make wood pellets means lessening the problem of waste disposal.
With the cost of fossil fuels expected to continually rise, the demand for pellet heating systems and wood pellets have exploded over recent years. New heating systems are continuously being developed to suit the needs and demands of the consumers. The new models have the advantage over other types of home heating systems. Wood pellet stoves are easy to operate and more convenient than using traditional stoves in terms of regular stoves needing more maintenance.
