Export to Mexico up 16.1%
Viet Nam’s export to Mexico rose over 16.1% to US$684.9 million in 2012, and its import from the foreign country surged nearly 23.1% to US$111.5 million, according to the General Department of Viet Nam Customs.
Vietnamese key exports to Mexico include footwear, frozen fish, coffee, garments and textiles. Viet Nam imports mainly machines, equipment, computers, steel and animal feeds from Mexico.
The Vietnamese Commerce Section in Mexico predicted that Mexico will import more Vietnamese footwear, garments, textiles, machines, coffee in 2013. The foreign country also has a high demand for canned food, such as litchi, pineapple and vegetables, imported from Viet Nam, instead of China.
When the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement is signed, Vietnamese exports may face competition of some from Mexico, especially garments, pork, beef, chicken and fruits.
